Social & Photos
Openverse is a multiplayer world first. Here’s how you connect with everyone else in it.
Chat
Open chat with Enter or /. There are a few layers:
- Local / zone chat — talk to players around you.
- Yell (
/yell) — reach a wider area. - Team chat (
/team) — just your team. - Direct messages (
/message <user>, then/reply) — private one-to-one. /who— list nearby players.
Emotes
Express yourself with emotes via slash commands — /wave, /dance, /point, /laugh, /flex, /clap, /rock, /sit, and more. There’s a whole set of character animations (waving, dancing, flexing, sitting, eating, drinking, even reacting to fights).
Photos & the feed
Openverse has a built-in photo mode. Hold a camera item and press F to cycle modes — standard, selfie, four isometric angles, and zoom (2×/4×/8×) — then capture the shot.
Photos become posts in the social feed, where players can:
- Like them.
- Comment on them.
- Warp to the location a photo was taken (if the photographer allows it).
- Jump into a minigame if the photo was taken during one.
- See who’s featured (tagged) in the shot.
Photos are how the community shows off builds, events, and moments.
Profiles & following
Every player has a profile with their photos and stats. Follow players to keep up with them — the game tracks your followers and who you follow.
Trading
Trade items safely, player-to-player:
- Start a trade (
/trade <user>or via their profile). - Each side adds the items they’re offering.
- The trade only completes when both players accept — no one can grab and run.
- Unfinished trades expire after 24 hours.
Gifts & mailboxes
Place a mailbox and other players can leave you gifts:
- Each player can send up to 3 gifts a day, and only one gift per recipient per day.
- Gift contents are a surprise (rolled from a treasure table).
- Uncollected gifts expire after 24 hours, so check your mail.
Teams
Form a team with other players:
- Teams have a name, color, icon, and a hero photo.
- Manage members, invites, and join requests.
- Use team chat and chase team metaquests together (see Quests).
- Compete for team rankings on the leaderboards.
