Minigames
Beyond open-world play, Openverse has player-run minigames — competitive modes you can build, host, and join right inside the world. Walk into a minigame’s entrance gate to join; the match runs on its own rules and feeds a leaderboard.
There are three built-in minigame types.
⚔️ Deathmatch
Classic free-for-all combat.
- Players spawn into an arena and fight.
- Every player gets a fresh kit (clean inventory, buffs reset) on spawn.
- The game tracks kills and deaths per player.
- You respawn during the match and keep fighting.
- Flow: waiting for players → countdown → playing → finished.
- Scored on your kill/death record.
🪓 Spleef
A “king of the hill” survival game — last one standing wins.
- Players stand on a platform.
- During a round, the blocks beneath players get broken away.
- Fall (or get eliminated) and you’re out for the round.
- The last player standing wins.
- Spectators can watch from dedicated observer spots around the arena.
- Scored on rounds won / time survived.
🏁 Simple Race
A checkpoint time-trial.
- A course is built from a start flag, one or more checkpoints, and a finish flag.
- Race from start through every checkpoint to the finish.
- Your time is recorded (from your first start to crossing the finish).
- A course becomes playable once it has at least one start, one checkpoint, and one finish.
- Scored on completion time — fastest runs top the leaderboard.
Hosting your own
Minigames are made of placeables you can build: entrance gates, leaderboards, spawn points, start/finish flags, and checkpoints. Lay out an arena or a racecourse on your land, and other players can drop in and compete. Each minigame keeps its own leaderboard (see Leaderboards).
