Quests & Progression

Quests & Progression

Openverse guides you forward with quests (also called challenges) handed out by NPCs around the world. Completing them unlocks recipes, rewards, and deeper systems.

Quest givers

Some NPCs are quest givers. They don’t fight and can’t be hurt — they just stand at their post (often marked with a beam of light) waiting to offer you a challenge. Walk up to one and interact to see what they have.

How a quest progresses

Each quest moves through clear states:

  1. Locked — hidden until you meet its unlock condition (e.g. owning a certain item, or finishing an earlier quest).
  2. Available — unlocked and ready; talk to the quest giver to accept it.
  3. In progress — you’ve accepted; now complete the objective. Progress is tracked automatically as you play.
  4. Completed — objective met. Claim your reward.

Rewards

Finishing a quest grants a reward bundle — items, gear, or currency added to your inventory. Many quests also unlock new crafting recipes, so quests are the backbone of progression: each one opens up a bit more of the game.

Repeatable quests

Some quests reset on a cadence so you can run them again:

  • Daily — resets each day (00:00 UTC).
  • Weekly — resets each week.
  • Monthly — resets at the start of the month.

These are a steady source of rewards and currency — check back regularly.

Team metaquests

Quests can also feed team metaquests — shared, point-based objectives that your team chips away at together. Contributions earn points (sometimes with multipliers) toward team-wide goals.

How you “level up”

Openverse doesn’t use classic XP levels. Instead you grow through:

  • Quest completion — unlocking recipes and rewards in a progression chain.
  • Better gear — crafting stronger tools and weapons increases your effectiveness.
  • Buffs — food and items grant boosts to speed, jump, health, and attack power.

Progress is about what you’ve unlocked and built, not a number next to your name.
